Tucson Arizona Married 3 2 Together with many of us, I went on from IHS to Cornell. Together with none of us, I majored in German Literature (thank you, Herr Teetor :-) After receiving a MAT degree in the teaching of German, I taught Junior High and High School German. While living and teaching in the Boston area I met my future husband, Rich Daly. We were married in 1970 and moved to Boxford, Massachusetts where we lived for 33 years. There we raised our three great children, a son and two daughters. Two of the three children are married and we are blessed with two terrific grandchildren. In 2003 we moved from Boxford to Tucson, Arizona.......a huge effort after 33 years in one home, and a dramatic change for us. We are retired and enjoying getting to know the delights of the Southwest. We return each summer to our log home on Thompson Lake in Maine, allowing us to escape Tucson's summer heat and to spend time with our East Coast friends. Note well: Should the webmaster choose to scan in my VERY nasty IHS yearbook photo, I have an excuse for it....it is a passport photo. The last half of our senior year I spent not at IHS but at the American Community School of Beirut as my dad was on sabbatical in the Middle East. In fact, I have two high school yearbooks and two high school diplomas and somewhere, I'm sure, some pretty nice photos!! Looking forward to seeing many of you in July.

Los Angeles CA Chair, California Air Resources Board Married 2 1 I have been practicing environmental law, either as an advocate for environmental groups or as an appointed official in California and federal office, since 1971. I'm now directing a multi-displinary environmental institute at UCLA, and serving as a Commissioner of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (anybody seen the movie Chinatown?) I've been married since 1971 to John Daum, who is a litigator with the firm of O'Melveny & Myers. Our son, Nick Daum and daughter, Margaret Daum, are also lawyers...it could be a genetic defect. My father, Ben Nichols, former mayor of Ithaca, still lives in Ithaca, and my brother Jeff (IHS 1964) and I own two small cottages on Cayuga Lake, so we and our kids look forward to the pilgrimmage to Ithaca every summer. I just realized how fast the past 5 years have disappeared. I lost my father at age 87 to cancer; he had a wonderful life and my only regret is that he didn't get to meet his First female grandchild, Charlotte Daum, age 4 1/2. Shortly after our last reunion I resumed commuting to Sacramento, this time as head of the State agency that is responsible for very ambitious air quality and climate change programs. I was appointed by Arnold Schwarzenneger--who turned out to be strong on saving the planet--and then reappointed by Jerry Brown. Despite all evidence to the contrary,I still see myself as a troublemaker.

Melbourne FL Retired Divorced 2 2 After IHS, it was Auburn Community College for two years, then Ithaca to work for three years reloading to finish college at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. I worked as a Marketing/Sales Manager in the electronics industry for 10 years and then started my own retail business for the next 25 years and sold it in 2002 and haven't looked back since. Married in 1970, divorced in 1977 and have two beautiful daughters and two grandsons, ages 4 and 1.
Amidst that, during my mid-life crisis, I opened a large restaurant/ night club during the line dancing craze. I kept it open for a year (which was too long) and could fill the place often enough but the dancers didn't want to eat or drink, so I threw the party for as long as I could. Thankfully I always had the retail business that pretty much perpetuated itself and I just cranked it up a little after I closed the restaurant.
Golf had always been a large part of my life, aside from my daughters. I was lucky enough to be able to play almost every day for 30 years and had my "15 minutes" a few times. I was the Club Champion of Two Clubs, set a course record 29 on the fron nine at the prestigious Gator Creek Golf Club and a nine birdie 66 at Foxfire.
I burned out on golf over 10 years ago and started traveling to Asia. I fell in love with it and started teaching golf for a while but mostly enjoyed helping the poor. They are wonderful people and it is so gratifying to actually make a significant difference for the better, in their lives. We can't do that in the US. All of our work is private because of all of the corruption in the governments and we have been instrumental in re-uniting families, creating housing and employment for many, many people.
I also had the humbling experience of arriving in Thailand as the tsunami hit a few years ago. It was the most horrifying experience of my life with all of the death and destruction. Most of the dead were children. We stayed down there for almost two months when the clean-up began. We returned to Bangkok and established a relief effort (private again) to help the villagers that had yet to be found and helped. The government pillages 95% of the aid so everywhere we went, we found people that were virtually helpless. We were able to provide food, clothing and some housing. The magical electricity that these people generate with the happiness that they displayed when they saw that someone actually cared for them created some of the most emotional moments of my life. I had spent about nine months a year over there for several years. Over there two months, come back to work for one month and then go back, etc. but I have slowed down a bit lately and hope to resume later this year.
Life has had plenty of ups and downs but overall I have a lot to be thankful for. I have been able to do about everything that I ever wanted to do and I have learned a lot, especially from the poor in Asia. Most of my time is spent in Thailand and the Philippines and later this year I will include China in a trip. Funny though, when we were in High School, 63 was "old" but I still feel like I am 33 and I look at all of your pictures and YOU ALL HAVE GOTTEN OLD, but you look great!!!

Joe passed away on May 27, 2008.

Union Springs NY Retired Physician lrdropkin@aol.com Married 2 After graduation along with many of my classmates I went to Cornell where I majored in Mechanical Engineering. I realized I wasn't smart enough to stay in that field so after graduation I headed to New York City , with much fear, being a small town boy, and entered Cornell Medical College. I finished four years of medical school and then did six years training to be an Otolaryngologist (an ear, nose and throat doctor). Then it was off to serve two years in the Air Force in Omaha, Nebraska. I was then asked to come back to the Cornell Medical Center where I have been practicing ever since. I did not make it back to our 30th reunion due to the birth of a daughter, but will definitely make it to the 45th. Retired 8/14 after being affiliated with the Cornell Medical College New York Hospital since 1970. Moved back home to Lake Cayuga area 5/15 at least for the warm weather.
