I went to Ithaca College and after that moved to NYC and worked for a CPA firm and Borden. Not being married, however, I was happy to join the US military. Air Force, 8th Air Force, SAC 19th Bomb Wing at Homestead AFB Florida. Fond memories after that I said I would never move to Florida, but times change things and thiking. Learned to downhill ski while auditing a client. Went to work for Borden to coordinate the installation of a self-editing computer system, but when they announced a move to Ohio instead of Connecticut, which I was hoping for, I took out a map and plotted ski areas in Vermont and moved there.
Worked for the Department of Mental Health as business manager of the State Hospital and later for the Department of Mental Health, Mental Health Division. My wife, Polly also worked as an accountant for the Mental Health Dept. Central Office which is how we met. Had a heart attack at 38 and the ski slopes got more crowded and colder. Switched to cross country skiing and sailing on Lake Champlain for a few years. Decided that warm weather was better so moved to Florida in 1986. Worked for the City of Sunrise as Assistant Finance Director, job opened in New Port Richey in a couple years so we moved to this area which seemed like it was out in the country then, but since changed considerably. After four years there, I was offered the job as CFO of the Tampa Port Authority which since I was still sailing at the time, I enjoyed very much.
Retired at 60, gave up sailing due to aching bones and after a triple by-pass, I decided to take up golf. It's been less than a year and to say I play golf would have to depend on your definition of "playing".
We have one daughter and three grandchildren, Morgan 13, Kyle 10, Mathew 6, who all live in Vermont. The two older ones work at higher levels in school and the youngest, well we're not sure yet, but he seems to have a position in the principal's office, well that's where he spends most of his time. But, he even seems to be improving some now. They're all beautiful of course.
Morgan, our grand daughter was diagnosed with Leukemia a year ago last January. She is being treated at Dartmouth Medical Center in NH. She went into remission very fast. Seems to be doing very well and the treatment will take two to three years. Both my parents are deceased and my older brother has been retired for some time now and lives in NC. Polly's mother is deceased and her father, 89, still lives in Vermont. We like to travel, cruise, mostly been in the Caribbean and Hawaii, but looking to expand.
