TRUMANSBURG – George A. Palmer, 53, of 3400 Halseyville Rd., Trumansburg, NY was called to be with his Lord Aug. 5, 1998 at the Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca.
George was born Jan 31, 1945 in Ithaca, NY, the son of the late Andrew and Edna Bement Palmer. He was a 1962 graduate of Ithaca High School. George was the Operations Manager and partner of the B&P Building Supply Center in Interlaken for 36 years.
He was a 37 year member of the Enfield Fire Dept. and served as an Assistant Chief, Lieutenant and Captain and also as a member of the Board of Directors.
Mr. Palmer was an Adherant of the Salvation Army Corp. of Ithaca, NY. George was an active participant of the Trumansburg Music Boosters (Color Guard) and served as President from 1993-1996.
He was a NASCAR enthusiast and was a strong supporter of the #3 car of Dale Earnhardt. He also enjoyed golf and bowling. He had resided most of his life in the Trumansburg area.
He is survived by his wife of 28 year, Janice Pettigrew Palmer, his daughters, Jessica Palmer and Angela Palmer, all of Trumansburg; his sister, Marjorie (Daniel) Griffen of Ithaca; several aunts and uncles including Donald Bement of Ovid, his business partner; also several brothers & sisters-in-laws, Carl & Rose Pettigrew, Hackensack NJ; Stella Pettigrew of Vallejho CA; Martha Pettigrew of Columbus GA; Clarence and Stella Pettigrew OF Erie PA: Ronald Pettigrew of Newfield NY;Dag & Joyce Pettigrew of Fairview PA; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
A memorial Celebration of his life will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998 at the Salvation Army Corps. Center, 150 N. Albany St., Ithaca, NY. Major Ronald Lugiano officiating. Burial will be private.
Friend may call on Friday, Aug. 7, 1998 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Covert Funeral Homes, 9 Washington St., Trumansburg, NY, 387-4444. Memorials may be made to the Enfield Fire Dept. Rescue Squad, 172 Enfield Main Rd., Ithaca, NY.
A reception for family and friends will be held immediately following at the Enfield Fire Dept., 172 Enfield Main Rd., Ithaca, NY.
