Robert F. June, of 93 Old Peruville Rd., Groton, passed away peacefully in his winter home of Arcadia, Florida, Saturday, February 11, 2017 after a long battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 12, 1944 to Robert and Carmella June in New York City. He grew up in Ithaca, NY after his father returned home from WWII. He considered himself a "West Ender", playing around the train station, inlet and the West Side House. He retired from the Ithaca post office as a mail carrier in 1998 after 32 years of service. Bob, Bobby, Junebug, Juney, as he was affectionately called, was a traveler. He loved to drive and see the country in his silver van with the US states map made out of carpet remnants on the floor. Every summer he would venture to a new corner of the country, national park or curious destination. He and his two sons would spend weeks on the road, making endless memories and building bonds that will last forever. Later in life, he and his wife Jinnie explored the US in their minivan and later with their RV, from NY to Alaska, Mexico to Florida. They would eventually find that Florida, in the winter, was the place to be, hopping from state park to state park. They finally settled in "Big Tree" RV resort park, their second home, where they spent the past 12 years. Bob loved to hike, canoe and bike ride. He loved to show others the places he had been and showed them the beauty of this land through his eyes.
Bob is survived by his wife of 18 years, Jinnie Rice June; two sons, Brian (Judy) June and Timothy (Kimberly) June; two grandsons, Josh and Adam (Jenny); three granddaughters, Jackie, Mikayla and Alysha (Danny); along with several great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his wife's three daughters, Denise (Rob) Woods; Kimberly (Kenny) Meddaugh and Danielle (Nate) Manzer; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob's two sisters, Lorraine Hamilton and Karen (Richard) Wilson, along with several nieces and nephews, two aunts, an uncle and many cousins also survive him.
Family was the most important thing to Bob, but a close second were his friends. He was loyal, supportive and grateful for every relationship he had. He sustained lifelong friendships from childhood, long distance ones, and with his ex-wife Lynne and her family.
It is a comfort knowing that near the end, Bob was saved. He will be joined by his loved ones and the Lord on his final journey. Imagine when he greets you, takes you on a tour and shares his perspective of the glorious place called heaven.
A memorial service is set for Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 2pm at the Dryden Veteran's Memorial Home, a fellowship for family and friends to celebrate his life with memories, photos, music and laughter.
