SHARON-LOU VICEDOMINI STRANKO

BINGHAMTON, NY

Sharon-Lou (Vicedomini) Stranko, surrounded by her loved-ones, went peacefully to be with her parents in the arms of a loving God on Monday, March 16, 2009, after a courageous three year battle with cancer.

In addition to her parents, James Vicedomini and Margaret (Poole) Vicedomini, she was predeceased by her brother, John Vicedomini; favorite cousin, Sandy Vicedomini, (all of Ithaca, NY). Sherry is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Tom Stranko; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dr. Judith Stranko-Richard and Dr. David Richard of Harrisburg; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and their families.

Sherry was especially devoted to her husband not allowing the disease to affect her running a household up until the day before she entered the hospital. Sherry attended Ithaca High School and was a member of the cheerleading squad and was elected "Miss IHS" in her senior year. Sherry had a passion for modern and interpretive dance and for her palomino horse, Pyewacket. She was an active member of the Tompkins County (NY) Horsemen's Assn. and became their "Horsewoman of the Year" for 1970. She was a 1966 graduate of Cortland State Teachers College with a major in Health Education. She worked in Ithaca, NY for Our Agency in the accounting department and later for the NY Giants Radio Network. She became a staff member of Cornell University Entomology Department. She was employed at Digital Equipment Corporation where she met her future husband. Sherry was a naturalist at heart, feeding all manner of wild birds, squirrels and chipmunks, sometimes by hand, from her back porch. She cheerfully took up the hobbies of her husband and could be seen in the summer at the Tioga and Iroquois Region Antique Auto Shows displaying their 1939 Pontiac or at the Southern Tier Antique Engine Association displaying vintage machinery.

The family of Sharon-Lou would like to send a heartfelt thanks to the entire medical staff of Broome Oncology and especially to the nursing and aide staff at Wilson Hospital ST5 Oncology, and Robert Packer Hospital.

The funeral will be Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. from the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home, 1240 St. Ann St., Scranton, PA, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in St. Ann's Basilica to be celebrated by Rev. Richard Burke, CP. We will also celebrate Sherry's life with a Memorial Mass at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 29th, at the Church of Saints John & Andrew on Vestal Ave., Binghamton, NY. Friends may call Thursday from 9:30 - 10:30 in the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann St., Scranton, PA.
