What have you been doing for the past 50 years?: Worked as a union electrician on heavy construction. Took early retirement in 1996, at age 52. I enjoy driving my 1923 Ford "T" Bucket street rod show car. I also have a 1969 Corvette, a 1956 Ford, and 1957 Chevy show cars. I spend most of my summer time on my cruiser, on Cayuga lake, swiming and fishing. Winter months I become a hermit, waiting for Yankee's spring traing to start. | |

What have you been doing for the past 50 years?:
After graduation from Cornell with a dual degree in anthropology and linguistics I headed West and got my graduate degree at Berkeley and finished my pre-med and then medical school. I lived in the Bay Area for 22 years working in pediatric oncology. My son was born in Santa Rosa, CA in 1978. He passed away from cancer in 2001 when he was 24. I moved to Seattle in 1982 and continued in medicine here. I never married but my life partner passed away after 25 years of excitement, love and happiness in 1995. Over the past 15 years I have lived and worked in China for a total now of four years studying the integration of Chinese medicine in combined cancer care. Teaching is a great love, and teaching medical students, especially clinical medicine, gets me going in the morning. Steering by the torch of chaos and doubt, my life has been like climbing the south side and descending the north side of a mountain in Guilin. Children with life-threatening disease inspire me endlessly. My portuguese water dog, Mr. Mr., has been my main squeeze for the past 10 years. He is also a therapy dog and attends sometimes with me. We walk along the Sound frequently and cross country ski in the mountains - he wears mini-snow shoes made for dogs. We live in a modest home built Japanese style with radiant floor heating from electricity produced by solar panels on the roof. Yes, Seattle sun can produce electricity. We heat water in this way - the radiant heat and the bathing and clothes washing water - and we collect our own water in underground cisterns - we are partially off the grid. Grow a lot of our own food. Somewhat typical West Coast Greens. My first book was on integrated cancer care - a medical text book. Next one is in process on cancer prevention and how modern living and philosophy has contributed to the cancer epidemic in the developed world - not a medical text. I write to music - my greatest love. Mr. Mr. especially loves opera. He has a stunning tenor voice. |
